Primal, sad, sexy, angry and dangerous, "The Wicker" unfolds in a forbidden forest where the carnal meets the sacred in a visceral display of Demeter culling her children back into the belly of the Earth.

"The Wicker" is a rite of passage, a sacrifice, a bonfire that sickles the bounty of this year's growth as the fat of the old drips through her loins to fertilize future offspring. Those who survive her scythe follow the transudation of the embers to celebrate her Carnal Rites.

Created and directed created by Moria Chappell, this 45-minute dinner theatre dance performance, hosted and produced by Dragon Vein Studios, features original compositions choreographed by Moria Chappell, Wild Saffron (Shelby O'Neil, Manami Uehara, Nicole Lopez, Noelle Peregrino, Alena Nozawa-Wade, and our newest dancer Maitrayee Choubey. The gala performances also showcase Bleeding Hearts and this year’s featured artistic group Wild Card Bellydance.

*Cull means to separate something from a group, usually because it is not as good as the others. Culling is also a term used for the selective process of slaughtering wild animals.

As a choreography, “Cull” is a sword dance

which represents the sickling of the harvest.

TEMPLE FUSION BELLYDANCE COMBINATIONS

2~Hour Workshop

Saturday October 19
10:00 am to 12:00 pm

Learn Temple Dance techniques from East Indian, Cambodian, Chinese, and Indonesian disciplines, including statue poses, mudras, sculpture, foot patterns, and sacred geometry.

These techniques and more will be taught in this unique approach to fusion dance.

Bellydance movements will connect various temple dance sculpture positions to create the very geometric patterns which form the fabric of nature and the cosmos.

Explore the geometry of dancing a living mandala.

FAN DANCE TECHNIQUE with FUSION BELLYDANCE COMBINATIONS

2~Hour Workshop

Sunday October 20

12:30 pm to 2:30 pm

This fusion Fan Dance combinations class teaches you creative and unique methods of dancing with fans.

The workshop includes techniques found in Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian, and Spanish traditional fan dances blended with Moria's own signature belly dance approach!

Combinations can easily be incorporated into improvisational, fusion, or personal choreography. No previous fan experience is necessary, multiple fan types and sizes will be demonstrated in class.

MORIA CHAPPELL

Moria Chappell is the creator of the Nightmare Theatrical Show “THE WICKER,” an all new performance experience.

As a world-renowned performance artist, dance instructor, ancient dance researcher, artistic director, and costume designer, Moria specializes in Fusion & Experimental Belly Dance, Temple Dance, and Indian Odissi Classical Dance. She has performed, taught, and researched ancient dance in more than 50 countries over her 22-year dance career.

Known for her archetypal approach to performance craft, her style is both feminine and fierce, ancient and modern, sacred and strange.

A popular performer and much sought after international teacher, Moria has developed a unique methodology and approach to belly dance control founded in her trademark teaching style: Muscular Belly Dance Technique (MBDT).

MBDT synthesizes the intensity and precision that epitomizes Fusion Belly Dance isolation and individualism.

WILDCARD BELLYDANCE

WildCard BellyDance is a professional troupe of dancers based in Sonoma County, California. Since 2008, WildCard has been teaching and performing group improvisational dance inspired by dances from the MENAHT (Middle East, North Africa, Hellenic, and Turkish) region, popularly referred to as “belly dance.” WildCard teaches and performs in both the bay area and around the world.

Rooted in FCBD®, their style holds true to the foundations of synchronized group improvisation. Building on this foundation, WildCard BellyDance has developed their own unique repertoire of movements, along with visual and verbal cues, to achieve graceful synchronicity within the group.

Reyna and Seba will be performing Saturday night and teaching workshops. These two amazing performers will share their unique skills and dance styles.
