WORKSHOPS & PERFORMANCES
JUNE 3 ~ 4 2017
Hip Gnosis will be hosting weekend workshops featuring Moria Chappell and Bagoas.
There will be a Gala Show on Saturday night with live music by August Hoerr and Thomas Groover of Tzignal Orkestar. "Open dancing" to live music follows the show ~ and Bagoas might even sing a song or two!
Interested in performing in the Gala event? All workshop participants are eligible to submit 3-5 minute performance piece for review once they have registered.
TEMPLE DANCE FUSION incorporates sacred temple and royal court dances from ancient India, Java, Cambodia, China, and Hawaii.
Over the course of the past decade, Moria has traveled to these countries to learn from dance instructors who have kept the secrets and techniques of their traditions alive as part of a chain of knowledge handed down across thousands of years.
The intricacies of these dances, layered and blended with Tribal Fusion belly dance techniques, produce a beautiful tableaux of what is most inspiring and captivating from these cultures including dance styles, unique props, costuming, jewelry, make-up, and hair design.
The goal of the workshop is for dancers to learn basic temple dance techniques from a variety of cultures in order to embellish their performance repertoire and add to it unique and exciting stylistic elements from the world of Odissi Fusion, Javanese Fusion, Cambodian & Chinese Apsara Fusion, and Hula Fusion.
When working with Moria, you will receive authentic information from primary sources.
Her instructors treasure their sacred temple and royal court dances and wish to impart them to serious and devoted students of their ancient and beloved cultural heritage.
SERPENTINE is a study in the exquisite and sultry movements that compose sensuous tribal fusion dancing.
In SERPENTINE you will learn how to master the necessary flexibility to make molten movements that drip from combination to combination.
Bellyrolls, half-sided belly isolations, and reverse bellyrolls will be featured as well as how to integrate these subtle muscular isolations into movements that read strongly on stage.
Liquid arms and body flow, beautiful facial and hand expressions, as well as how to maintain a strong posture from the upper back are emphasized.
You will learn control and isolation while dancing with the grace and physical dexterity required for liquid techniques.
The goal is for you to be able to visualize receiving movement through one part of your body while keeping the audience’s attention as you send the movement out to create expression from your face all the way through to your fingertips.
Emphasis will be placed on laybacks, flexibility, and floor work.
Kneepads are recommended.
All levels are welcome.
