MORIA'S CLASSES

FINE TUNING

Monday  1:30pm ~ 3:30pm

When I think of art I think of beauty.  Beauty is the mystery of life.  It is not in the eye, it is in the mind.  In our minds there is awareness of perfection.”

~Agnes Martin

FINE TUNING is a workshop where techniques and combinations are drilled to improve fluid movements while keeping the hands intentionally placed and expressive, the head and shoulders aligned, and the arms fluid and strong—all the while maintaining strength and control in the hips and abdomen.

As the last step in refining your dance, and thus your segue to professionalism, this class focuses on the polished moves that make a dancer exquisite to watch.

CAMBODIAN & CHINESE APSARA FUSION

Tuesday  11:15am ~ 1:15pm

CAMBODIAN & CHINESE APSARA FUSION is a classical dance style based on ancestral movements dating back to Cambodia’s Angkorean era.

These slow and sensuous moves perfectly match the mystical atmosphere enveloping Cambodian temples.

In Hindu tradition, the Apsaras were female spirits who inhabited trees and clouds, and were thought to make their homes in the oldest, mightiest trees in the forest.

The Sanskrit word “apsarāḥ” is translated as “celestial dancer.”

In CAMBODIAN & CHINESE APSARA FUSION, you will learn the exquisite Apsara gestures and postures seen in Asian stone carvings and shared with you via a long line of dance gurus spanning thousands of years.

Over the past decade, Moria has traveled numerous times to Cambodia and China in order to study this specific style of dance from instructors steeped in these ancient dance traditions.

The goal of the workshop is for you to return home confident that you have experienced the Apsara dance via authentic Cambodian and Chinese sources and are able to continue drilling and fusing these alluring gestures and postures into your belly dance solos, duets, or group pieces.

TRIBAL FUSION DRUM SOLO

Saturday  9:00am ~ 11:00am

The rhythm is in your blood.”

~African Proverb

TRIBAL FUSION DRUM SOLO offers a unique take on percussion and rhythm.

In this innovative class you will learn to play  music through your muscles using Tribal Fusion’s signature locks, breaks, fluid arms, shapes, and combinations as well as Moria's Muscular Belly Dance TechniqueTM (MBDT) for layering, traveling, and transitioning.

This exciting and fun workshop culminates in a Tribal Fusion drum solo choreography that you can continue to drill in your studio or perform immediately.

All levels are welcome.

MORIA CHAPPELL PERFORMANCE TRACK

Wednesday  1:30pm ~ 6:30pm
Thursday      1:30pm ~ 6:30pm

Moria's choreographies are known for their dynamism and unique use of fusion from world temple dances originating in the Middle East, North Africa, Southeast Asia, as well as the Asian and Polynesian islands.

Incorporating ancient mythology into modern music, her work is always authentic, original, archetypal, deep, and universally entertaining.

Join Moria to perform in one of her most powerful creations: "Yogini's Bird Song."

This piece includes ancient Indian temple dance forms, Muscular Belly Dance TechniqueTM, Tribal Fusion and ATS combinations, and dramatic group shapes using the entirety of the stage to tell the story of Yogini magic bringing forth the forest bird's song.
